What’s the Difference Between Front End, Back End, and Full Stack Developer?

By:-

Being a developer is an increasingly popular way to make a living. In the USA alone, there are over 4 million software developers. Worldwide, that number jumps to over 20 million and rising. The revenues in the software industry are almost $500 billion. Companies use software for everything from marketing to customer service.

As a result, it should be no surprise that there are more and more developers out there to keep up with the growing market. However, not all developers are created equally. Not only are there different levels of skills from one to the next, but there are actually several different types. In general, there are three types of the developer which are front end, back end, and full-stack.

But what are the differences between these three and what are they responsible for doing? Well, if that’s something you have long been curious about, you’re in luck. This blog post is going to go over the difference between the 3 main types of developers.

What is a Front-End Developer?

A front-end developer is essentially responsible for creating and dealing with the front-end of a website. This is everything that the visitor can see and click on when they visit your site. This is the navigation, the buttons, the colors, the font, menus and more. Their job is about making the user experience as high-quality as possible and looks great at the same time.

The main languages a front-end developer should be skilled with include HTML, CSS, and Javascript. These tools will help front-end developers work hand-in-hand with web designers to make sure a site or platform looks and performs well. These developers may need to have knowledge of different frameworks as well, depending on what they’re doing.

What is a Back-End Developer?

On the other hand, a back-end will deal with everything relating to a website that a visitor can’t see. For a front-end developer to even have a job, a back-end developer had to have created the site or platform beforehand. The back-end of a site includes servers, databases, applications and several other types of technology.

It is a back-end developer’s job to build it and maintain it, so the site can remain live and functional. In a way, think of them as a home builder, and the front-end developer as the interior designer. Back-end developers need to have knowledge of languages such as Ruby, Java, PHP or Python and may use a variety of different tools and frameworks as well. They need to be able to write clear and very well-documented code.

What is a Full-Stack Developer?

A full-stack developer is someone who is capable of working on both back and front-end development. They are well-versed in the tools required by both and are both creative and detailed enough to focus on either side. These individuals need to be skilled in many areas and understand how websites work on all levels.

Oftentimes, being a full-stack developer can make it easier to find jobs as many people want their programmers to be able to handle more than one type of task. Of course, being an expert on both sides of development is not easy and will take a ton of work. As a result, be sure it is something you really want to do before diving right in.

In conclusion, we hope that this article has been able to help you learn the differences between the different types of developers. While they may share some of the same skills and knowledge, they generally do very different things.
